  1. You are a senior Manager at a leading Public Sector Undertaking in the country. Two of your colleagues are facing charges of corruption. An external enquiry has been initiated against them and you have been summoned to testify as a witness. You are aware that they both are guilty of the charges and as a matter of fact, you have even cautioned them to mend their ways but they did not heed your advice. The Director of the PSU calls you to his/her office and tell you that he is sorely disappointed with these officials. They have not only brought disrepute to themselves but other honest officials and the organisation at large. However, he says that you save the organisation's image by possibly watering down your testimony. He asks you to cooperate and assures you that your support would not go unrewarded.

(a) What are the options available to you?

(b) Evaluate each of the options and choose the option which you think you adopt giving reasons?

2. You have recently joined the I.A.S. and are currently undergoing district training. A batchmate of yours who is incidentally posted in the same state as you recently got married. You wedding was organised very extravagantly with all the pomp and show. At the wedding you witnessed large sums of cash and jewellery gifted to your batchmate discreetly in presence of a very number of people. The a few weeks later, you receive summons from a local court where a case was filed against your batchmate and his family for extracting dowry and threatening to break off the marriage if more dowry was not given. You received a summon as a witness as you were present at the wedding, and you have a reputation of being incredibly honest.

The batchmate calls you and requests you to alter your testimony accordingly. He pleads for you to so as it may have detrimental impact on his career.
